Winter Favourites
Now that March has arrived, spring is just around the corner. I know we will have a few more cold snaps (like the last couple of days!) and in all likelihood more snow. I am trying not to get ahead of myself in my readiness for warmer weather, but it can be difficult to appreciate winter when we are at the tail end of it. Winter for me typically involves more time spent at home (especially during an ongoing pandemic), and it’s easy to go a bit stir-crazy. This year, in these final winter weeks, I am making a conscious effort to embrace the comforts of home. I know spring will bring with it more hustle and bustle, and I will likely miss the more restful winter months. Winter provides us with an opportunity to slow down, reflect and recharge, all within the warm confines of the spaces we inhabit. In reflecting on my most used and loved items over the last few months, this emphasize on home and comfort is prevalent.
GRIFFITH DRESS
First up, my winter uniform: the Griffith maxi dress by BODYBAG by Jude. This dress is everything. Full length, turtleneck, and POCKETS! It is so warm and comfy. Somehow, it also manages to look chic and edgy - this dress is just as perfect for street style as it is for cozy days spent at home. I’ve been living in this dress this winter.
The Griffith dress is designed and fabricated in Montreal. BODYBAG by Jude is a woman owned apparel company, premiered in 1998.
The dress is available in grey bouclé (pictured), green and black.
KINFOLK
Now that I’ve had the opportunity to spend more time at home (I basically lived in the shop throughout November and December), I find myself adjusting my surroundings to better reflect both my interests and my tastes. To start, I bought myself a coffee table (somehow, I have made it to 30 without one?!). Once it arrived, of course I needed to style it - is a coffee table even complete without a coffee table book? Enter Kinfolk.
The Kinfolk Home encompasses the intentionality that I try to channel in my day-to-day life, all beautifully represented in one (substantial) book. This book is a perfect piece of coffee table decor.
WOOD BEADS
My other coffee table decor piece of choice is this wood bead garland. Such a simple, yet versatile piece, this garland looks great on a tray, in a bowl, or artfully draped across a coffee table book. It also works well on a mantlepiece or book shelf.
The garland would also look perfect in a nursery - I incorporated some into the baby nook in the shop, and I think it looks adorable!
The wood bead garland is available both with and without tassels.
Alpaca Throw
This winter, I’ve been spending a lot of time reading and re-watching old tv shows (I seem to be on a 90s kick), and this throw has been perfect for snuggling up on the couch. It is 55% alpaca, and 45% wool, and so soft and warm. Big too (55X78”)!
This throw is made by Linen Way, a Canadian, family run company. Linen Way uses high quality, natural fabrics that you can feel good about. The throws are designed in Canada, and made ethically and sustainably in Peru.
The throw is available in Oatmeal (pictured), Sand, and Charcoal.
Danika Vautour Ceramics
I couldn’t find a style of ceramics that better fits my taste if I tried. The white glaze, paired with the natural base is just perfect. Better yet, these pieces are made by a local artist! Danika’s work is minimalistic and simple, elevated and unique. I have both a pitcher and a canister, which I use for wooden spoons and sink-side kitchen brushes. Both would make perfect vases, as well!
Danika also made a selection of berry bowls, mugs, and butter dishes for Juniper, and we plan to continue to collaborate in the future!
And those are my favourites of the season! Now, I could say “bring on spring!” but I won’t - instead, I’m going to enjoy these last winter days and be appreciative of the comforts I’ve enjoyed this season.
Warmly,
KP
