The Refillery

According to Plastics Oceans International, humans produce “300 million tons of plastic every year, 50% of which is for single-use purposes.” For me, in my own lifestyle habits, these plastics can be split into two categories: personal care products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) and home cleaning supplies (laundry jugs, cleaning bottles, etc.). Even if I am on the ball with practicing intentionality, and making conscious consumer choices, I still find the aforementioned plastics cluttering up my garbage can. Or, I did, until just recently! Now, I have an alternative (i.e. my own shop, which I’ve opened with the intention of providing a solution to this exact problem).

The cornerstone of Juniper is our refillery, and its purpose is to help us reduce our consumption of single-use plastics. In the refill station, you will find natural cleaning supplies, personal care products, and zero/low waste swaps, all intended to help us reduce the amount of waste typically produced by these products. We’ve got it all, from dish washer tabs and all purpose concentrate, to hairspray and baby lotion. 

So, how does it work? It’s pretty simple - read on for the details!

Step 1

Choose from a selection of bottles or containers in store, or bring your own from home - bottle, jar, Tupperware, etc. - as long as it’s clean and sturdy, we can fill it! We also have individual units (for example, a full bottle of shampoo or a full jug of laundry soap) available in store.

Step 2

If you bring a bottle/container from home, bring it to the counter to be weighed.

Step 3

Let our staff know which product you would like, and we will fill your receptacle for you.

Step 4

We will then weigh your receptacle again, and reduce the weight of the packaging before calculating the cost of the product.

Step 5

Purchase your product, and you’re good to go!

Easy, right? Now, instead of tossing out empty product bottles, we can use one indefinitely. Juniper also offers a growing variety of product options, so whether you like to find a favourite and stick with it, or mix it up at each refill, we are here for you.
